Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, former MP for Anyaa Sowutuom, has voiced serious concern over the state of healthcare financing in Ghana, stating it falls far short of global standards.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, he highlighted how in other countries, wealthy individuals, corporations, and insurance companies actively support healthcare systems something rarely seen in Ghana and much of Africa.
He urged Ghanaians and institutions to adopt a more collective mindset, contributing not only to their personal healthcare but also to the nation’s health infrastructure.
Dr. Kissi described the current situation as a “deep pit,” emphasizing the urgent need for a cultural shift in how healthcare is funded.
His remarks came shortly after Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh announced financial clearance for thousands of nurses and midwives, including many who have gone unpaid for ten months.
